A note from Lookback’s creator

I just wanted
to be a good parent.

When I built Lookback, my baby was six months old. I wanted a practical reminder on the one thing I always carry: my phone.

Some stories stay with you.

As a kid, I remember seeing news stories about children left in cars. I remember feeling awful for the child, and for the parent whose life had changed forever. Those stories stayed with me.

Then I had a baby of my own. I wanted my child to be safe. I wanted to be a good parent. And I knew how much there is to keep track of in an ordinary day.

It’s hard to imagine forgetting the most important person in your life. I still wanted a reminder to help me check the back seat when my attention was pulled in different directions.

My phone was already coming with me.

I wanted something practical. I didn’t want to hunt down another device, or deal with replacing hardware if it started acting up. I wanted a reminder that fit into what I already did.

I always carry my phone. That was the starting point for Lookback.

The idea was simple: when I parked and walked away, my phone could ask me to check the back seat. If I didn’t respond, it could follow up. No separate sensor to find, fit or pair.

That’s the experience I built around: a check-in, then an alarm or notification and an optional phone call. You can read how the reminders work, including the permissions and iOS features they depend on.

A reminder, with honest limits.

Wanting something that works was my reason for building Lookback. It isn’t a promise that an app can never fail.

Lookback follows your phone’s location and motion. It doesn’t see your baby or detect whether the car seat is occupied. An “all clear” records your response to a reminder, not a check performed by the app.

A phone can lose power. Permissions can change. A reminder can fail. Checking the back seat yourself still matters on every trip.

If you want a sensor at the seat or alerts to other caregivers, those are different needs. Our comparison with SensorSafe and SensAlert explains what each approach offers.

That’s why Lookback exists.

I built this because I love my child, and I wanted a little help with something that matters to me. Something practical, on the phone I already carry.

If you’ve been looking for that too, I hope Lookback is useful to you.
